Introverted?

I spend a lot of time trying to learn more about who I am as a person and a leader. Discovering more about myself allows me to understand why I lead the way I do and why I react the way I do in different situations. I am a sucker for the Myers Brigg Type Indicator Test or the Emotional IQ test or the DISC assessment or other personality assessments that may pop up.

I just finished reading Introvert Power by Laurie Helgoe, PhD. This is a very good book that explores the Introvert's role in society and how we interact with extroverts and the general societal obligations surrounding us. The author does an excellent job of clarifying research about Introverts over the last 50+ years. I also found the information on rearing introverted children very good. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

Hello CIOGuy:

I received a Google Alert about your blog. I am the author of Introvert Power, and I appreciate your kind words about the book. The groundswell of interest in the topic is an affirmation of how many of us are out there and how many of us are tired of being judged against standards that don't apply to us. There is a wealth of energy and power and creativity and connectiveness in introversion -- that is, if we dare to tap in to it. Best, Laurie

I love this article. I am an Introvert – very introverted and was born into a family of Extroverts. It seemed that no one understood the way I processed information – after all that is the biggest difference between introverts and extroverts. Introverts process by thinking, extroverts process by talking.

Both of my children are extroverts, one being is very extroverted. Talk about turning the tables on me. I am trying to learn to just listen to them without becoming overwhelmed with all of the talking.

Great article – I loved the topic. I found great resources on the Myers Briggs definitions of Extroversion and Introversion – they sum up the information for those in the dark.
